Edinburgh Book Festival 2012

Pupils and staff from Kyle Academy had a great time at this year's Book Festival in Edinburgh. Think you
know Henry VIII ? Authors Harriet Castor and Pauline Francis brought the story to life by discussing  their obsessions  with all things Tudor plus the joys and struggles of writing. Did you know that the full life story of Henry VIII  from handsome young boy to murdering tyrant can be compared to that of Anakin Skywalker turning into Darth Vader! Great fun and inspirational for historical fiction fans.

W.H. Smith - Educational Achievement Vouchers!

Many thanks to W.H. Smith in Ayr who have awarded Kyle Academy £200 of Educational Achievement vouchers as part of their 2012 Schools Giveaway! Kyle was one of only 5 schools in Scotland to receive this award. This is in recognition of our recent community partnership work on E-readers as part of the Dyslexia Friendly Schools Initiative. Some vouchers will be used to purchase new books in audio and E format and some will be kept for prize-giving awards in  Reading. Watch this space!

Carnegie Medal Winner 2012!

A small but dedicated group of readers from Kyle shadowed this year's Carnegie Medal Book Awards.  Pupils and staff debated the merits of a shortlist of 8 fantastic books. We couldn't all agree on a winner, but the national vote went to
A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness. Copies of all books are in the Library!

Open University Success!

Well done to Ruth Muir who successfully achieved her Open University Certificate in Human Genetics and Health Issues. Ruth participated in the Young Applicants in Schools Scheme.
