Book review!

Heather Higgins – 5R has read All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque

This book is very exciting and is all about a soldier’s account of the war in Germany. It was written in 1928 and is perhaps one of the first 'anti-war' novels.

I would definitely recommend this book; it is a good insight to the life of a soldier on the front line.

Mr Stewart - English
The Enemy – Charlie Higson

ZOMBIES! A world where all the adults are zombies and the kids are trying to survive.

It’s seriously scary, very well written and has great characters.

What the teachers are reading! Miss Byrne's book review

Miss Byrne – Depute Head Teacher
The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters

What’s the book about?
This is a ghost story about a family whose home appears to be haunted. This story is told from the point of view of the family doctor. The ghost plays cruel and nasty tricks on the family and the story becomes increasingly sinister. There is a very clever twist in the tale in the end.

Why would you recommend your book to others?
This book is really exciting; I could not put it down! I would recommend it to older readers who like mysteries. I would not recommend that you read it alone in an old empty house at night in the dark though!!

Mr O'Neill (Pupil Support) is reading and enjoying The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. He was interviewed by Ryan Mackie.

Alan's (3R1) Book Review - Stone Cold!

My book review is on Stone Cold by Robert Swindells.

This book is in two character narratives - Shelter that dislikes homeless people and Link that is homeless. Link dislikes his step father and turns homeless about ten pages in. In the book he meets a new friend who has been homeless for 6-7 months. They meet at a doorstep. Ginger helps Link beg. They go to Captain Hook’s boat and sleep. Someone steals Links watch and Shelter kills the man who took it. Shelter kills people and hides them under the floorboards. Shelter then finds Ginger and kills Ginger and Link doesn’t know what has happened and goes back to Captain Hook’s and can’t sleep unlike the first time he slept there. Shelter kills seven people in total. When he finds Shelter’s home he keeps watching him and finds him clapping his cat Sappho. When Shelter asks Link to go in Link spots his watch and goes to it. Shelter then traps Link in and they fight. Gail goes in and Shelter gets taken into the police car and drives away. I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to everyone.

Stolen book review by Megan (3R2)

Stolen By Lucy Christopher
The book stolen inflicts on a teenager (Gemma 16) who is kidnapped from an airport waiting on her parents by a creepy stalker and is taken away to the roasting desert and is kept hostage.
How will Gemma escape this crazy stalker?
Why her?
What does have in store for her?
This book is definitely worth having a look! Exaggeratingly brilliant full of wild secrets that are finally getting answered once and for all.

Blood Ties book review by Ashley (2W2)

Blood Ties by Sophie McKenzie

My book review is going to be all about a book called Blood Ties. Blood Ties is the first book in a series of two, the second book is called Blood Ransom. Blood Ties is all about two young teenagers who knew from the start they were born different, Theo doesn’t know his dad and his mum has told him that he was dead a soldier killed in battle. Rachel on the other hand lives at home with her mum and her dad, one day Rachel gets a strange text from her dads mobile “the angel's still in heaven”. She is confused so decides to ring the phone it came from, she rings it and hears it answer in her dads office. She’s confused, and then when a strange (but very good looking) boy called Theo turns up at her all girls’ school asking to speak to her, things get even weirder.

Nuala's book review !

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
J.K.Rowling
This book is the seventh and final in the spectacular Harry Potter series. It starts off at home in the Dursleys- like the others- but this time Harry has to fly from the place he calls home, to the burrow, without being found out by the death eaters and Voldemort- if he can. The book gets straight into the action with its first taste of death before settling down at bill and fluers wedding for a while. All does not go to plan however and harry, Ron and Hermione are tipped into the task Dumbledore set for them- to find and destroy all of Voldemorts horcruxes.
The book twists and turns and many secrets are revealed, including a shockingly sad one about Severus Snape, before the amazing climax. It is an amazing book in itself but you have to read the others in the series to fully understand the sorrows and triumphs.
